Age Concern's healthy living project

Age Concern bus and Welsh sceneryAge Concern Montgomeryshire are running a programme of activity, support, talks and massage for old people living in very remote areas of Wales.

When older people in the remote areas of Wales lose the ability to drive - or a driving partner, they can suddenly find themselves completely isolated.  Age Concern's weekly 'mountain bus' service brings together people from remote areas for a day of good food, conversation, talks, health checkups, massage and shared activity.

The organisers are keen to share best practice with others.  Project co-ordinator Margaret Davison says 'we've learned a lot over the years about what over 60s want, number one is company, then to feel of use, to make friendships and enjoy activities.  Our service users do not want to go to a Day Centre.  What we try to do is "add years to life and life to years"'.
