Palliative care at Ty Geraint
Services for people with cancer in the Aberystwyth area include emotional support, complementary therapies and an innovative film project.
In an attractive house next to the local hospital in Aberystwyth, staff including art therapists, psychologists, nurses and complementary healthcare workers support people from the area suffering from cancer. Often their work begins where clinical interventions end - after surgery, or between bouts of chemotherapy.
The service also reaches out into remoter districts of Wales, advising healthcare staff in other areas about good emotional and palliative support.
What kinds of organisations run this service?
Palliative services in cancer are increasingly common. Ty Geraint's remarkable for the completeness of the service and their work to spread good practice.
