The ExtraCare Charitable Trust
The ExtraCare charitable trust is responsible for a series of exceptional older people's housing complexes across England.
Many regard 'old people's homes' with dread. ExtraCare have found a model that give people dignity, empowerment, company and the opportunity to choose healthy lifestyles.
Their housing complexes are a mixture of rented and owner-occupied flats, centering on a shared space which can include restaurants, shops, places for massage and hand waxing, art classes, a gym, a library and seated exercise sessions for the more frail.
What sort of organisations run these programmes?
ExtraCare are leaders in the field in this model of housing and they are continuing to build new complexes across the country. Importantly, it's possible even for someone on an ordinary State pension to afford accommodation.
